Debut novelist Kishore Ram takes readers on a journey with his new literary thriller THE DEAD KNOW NOTHING.

If for no other reason, those who want to be transported to another world should read The Dead Know Nothing. Set in a small fishing village within India’s Ashtamudi archipelago, author Kishore Ram’s economic writing style manages to portray Fathima Island and its inhabitants with color and light so vivid, you’ll feel as though you’re walking among them. The novel’s main character, Thankachan, has just failed his seminary exams and has returned to the village in disgrace. Soon he is caught up in the daily grind of fishing with his older brother—and worse—helping his mother with the humiliating task of selling their catch.

The appearance of a dead body floating along the shore is the first hint of darker things to come, and the reader is catapulted into an odyssey of human struggle within a culture of caste, religious, and economic injustices. Still, through the author’s stark narrative lies hope and resilience, and you will witness Thankachan’s transformation from immature twenty-something to adult.

This novel is not for the faint of heart, but I recommend it for the experience and insights it offers.

Happy Reading, Writing, and Sharing!
