Amy Pease: Off To A Great Start With NORTHWOODS
Fresh. Immersive. Troubling.
Northwoods will make you want to empty out your medicine cabinet.
Debut novelist Amy Pease has firmly planted her stake into the ground of upmarket mystery—that sweet spot where literary quality and commercial appeal come together.
In her new novel, NORTHWOODS, Amy transports her readers into the darker side of Shaky Lake, a small resort town in Wisconsin’s Northwoods plagued by the opioid epidemic. Through her writing, I could almost feel the mosquitos biting and the air hanging hot and humid around me. I was drawn in by characters Eli North and his boss, Sheriff Marge North. I love this mother/son duo and find their pairing fresh and full of possibilities.
The emotional wounds Eli has carried home from Afghanistan have made this strong, reliable man into someone not to be counted on, and he is the perfect anti-hero to root for. I can’t tell you how may times I thought: Come on, Eli, pull it together! In contrast, Marge is tough yet caring and is someone you’d want in your corner, every time. With Northwoods, author Amy Pease has built a solid foundation for a series featuring these two, and I trust that her writing is going to get even better as the series progresses. Her follow-up novel, Wildwood, is expected to come out January 2026.
If you’d like to learn more about Amy, there are several interviews out there. The one I enjoyed most was Tracey Phillips’ Blackbird Writers Presents. Click here for the link.
Happy Reading, Writing, and Sharing!
